Summer Camp Day Counselor Job Description

Classification: Full Time/Seasonal

Term: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30 pm: June 04, 2025 - August 30, 2025

Reports to: Executive Director

About us: The Educational Garden Project LLC, is an Asheville, NC based, woman-owned business whose mission is to cultivate healthy communities by growing and sharing food with children and their families. We provide Garden Camp for kids when there is no school (summer break, winter break, and other holidays). Everyday at Garden Camp we cook, garden, and tend to animals while also providing a safe environment for kids to play. We aim to create a working environment that is diverse, inclusive, collaborative and supportive. We’re excited to nurture a strong work ethic in our staff and campers  offering many opportunities to cultivate gardens, cook healthy foods, engage with baby animals and play in outdoor environments

Position Details: 

Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for facilitating our day camp activities, where we provide outdoor cooking, garden, animals and theme-based experiences to children ages 6-10 attending Garden Camp at The Educational Garden Project in Asheville, NC. 

Candidates must: 

● Enjoy working with children, understand the importance of play, have at least two years experience working with kids & possess a basic understanding of child development

● Center daily activities and conversations around outdoor cooking, gardening, animals and theme-based experiences 

● Implement projects and activities to lead and engage campers around our weekly theme, for example: bees, birds, bats, etc. 

●Possess strong leadership capabilities 

● Have the ability to manage a fast paced environment with a level head 

● Have the ability to consistently show up for work all summer at 8am, on time, present and ready for work 

● Be enthusiastic about engaging in outdoor activities 

Requirements: 

● Be 21 years or older and pass a background check 

● Be available this Summer starting the first week of June for group trainings including: First Aid & CPR, Sexual Abuse Prevention training 

● Participate in practice safety drills, regarding wildlife, active shooter, and unauthorized person in the camp setting 

● Safely lift 60 lbs and walk up to 5 miles a day
